                      Emilie Mathilda Heit

Emilie was the first child born to George Peter and Emma Hedwig Heit (nee Freiburg). She was born 15 December 1887 and livid end with her parents at Obum Obum, Engelsburg (Kalbar) Queensland Australia. On 31 July 1907 Emilie married Johann Rudolph Korner at the home of the bride's parents, Engelsburg, Fassifern. They were married by Baptist minister, Pastor Carl Krueger. After their marriage they took up farming at Kulgun. It was here at Kulgun that they raised their family of 8 children three daughters and five sons. Emilie and Johann lived all their married life on the farm at Kulgun until the time of their death. Emilie and Johan and their family worshipped at the Kalbar Baptistv church. They both took a keen interest in the church work and Johann sang in the church choir. Life on the farm was not easy. They worked hard and put in long hours to provide a living for themselves and their children. They experienced hard times, especially in times of drought when it was most disturbing to see cattle dying due to lack of food. It was during drought conditions that they used to travel to Mt Frazer with the horses and German wagon to get "Prickly Pear" for the cattle to eat. (Not a very pleasant diet even for cattle). Both Emilie and Johann took an interest in community affairs. Johann was for some considerable time the caretaker of the community dip. ( where cattle were dipped for ticks) He was a member of the farmers union and of the school committee. Emilie was a good housekeeper and cook and put her cooking expertise to good use, especially when it came the time for the local shows. This was evidenced by the many prizes she took in both bread making and cake making sections. Emilie's favourite hobby was her beautiful rose garden which she loved to tend, the result being beautiful blooms which were a delight to be seen. Emilie and Johann always loved Sundays and Sunday evening after tea was always a favourite time for them when they would gather with family on the front verandah and Johann would play the Button Accordian (Squeeze Box) and Emilie the mouth organ and a good old fashioned family sing-song would be enjoyed. At the young age of 41yrs. And 10 months Emilie passed away, having predeased her husband by 43yrs. He died at age 88yrs. One son Charles, predeceased him also. Both Emilie and Johann are buried in the Kalbar General Cemetery. The above information was in the Heit Family History book compiled by Merle Heit for their family reunion. The information came from my Aunt Doris Pfeffer who was my Dad's sister. There are some things I want to add after my dad was born Emilie developed " White Leg" which was thrombosis . She was bedridden for awhile and dad's older sisters had to care for him and their mother. She went on to have three more children after dad. According to my Mum , Emilie died while hanging out the family washing she cal lapsed and died. We Grandchildren never saw any evidence of grandma's prizes or saw any evidence of any family sing alongs etc I never knew he could sing or play a musical instrument. Which is nice to know I guess when grandma died all of those activities died with her. Because this is a side of Gran Gran ( which is what I called him) I never knew. I know they had an organ but I don't know who played the grandchildren used to play with it. I remember her rose garden that was a lot of work because there was no mower so grandma had to chip all the grass away from around the beds so the path s around the beds was dirt. Teeny Gran Gran's housekeeper kept the garden going. She was 16 when she moved in to help look after the family. Her name was Christina Wolter. To me she was the grandmother I never had in life she was plump and cuddly and I loved her. She was a very good cook. She worked very hard very very hard even when she developed crippling arthritis she had to work very hard she developed arthritis in the last couple years of Gran Gran's life after he died she went to live with relatives and has since died.

With Auguste Wilhelmine Zimmerman-Heit he had August Friedrich Wilhelm 1860, Emilie Marie 1864, Anna Elizabeth 1867.
It is remotely possible there might have been another marriage but as far as I know at the moment there was only three.
