3.a Transcriptions from Ethel Schossow's papers - She was trying to put together her family tree

This story is a transcription done by Ethel Schossow and some others.  Given that that information and records was sourced a long time ago, some people made a fantastic effort at trying to sort out the family!  It also may have been done in conjunction with a story that she wrote for our son, Gregory, about 20 years ago.

Johann Dickfos, his wife and five children arrived in Australia in 1865 and settled in the Coleyville area near Ipswich, soon after arrival.

Herman, one of the boys married a Rosevale girl Anna Fischer in 1879.  They settled on a farm out along the old Harrisville, Rosevale Road, south of Ipswich.

They had a family of 10 children.

Wilhelmine               Frederick Lobegeiger
Annie                       Frederick Nuffer
Henry                       Wilhelmine Hobbs
Ellen                        John Christensen
John                         Lena Hobbs
Frank                       Hannah Muller
Christina                  Arthur Lobegeiger
Charles                    Martha Stringer
Margaret                  Frederick Schossow
Theresa                    Herman Muller

Anna Fisher came to Australia with her parents, sister and brother.  The Fisher family was of Danish and German descent, landed at Rockhampton by sailing boat.  Anna was 8 years of ag.  Born 15 April 1858 died November 1946 aged 88 years.

**********************************************************************************

Anna's mother's name was Wiebke and that name is peculiar to the Schleswig Holstein and East Friesland area, but more common in the latter area.

It is interesting to see how the Schossow name comes up in this family.  Intermarriage among Germans was extremely common and tended to complicate family relationships.

I do know a little about Anna Fischer's older brother Marcus whose full name was Radge Castor Marcus Fischer.  He married an Albertine Wieland in 1876 and they settled at Rosevale.  They had nine children
Marcus Fischer was elected to the Normanby Shire Council in 1904 and later became Chairman.  He was active in the affairs of the Rosevale Lutheran Church.  He was well known, apparently, for his toughness and inflexible nature.

I think that Margarite, the eldest daughter of Paul and Wiebke Fischer married Friedrich Crepin.
I have enclosed maps showing the location of the various villages, mentioned.  You have been able to make a good start but it is only just a short start as there is a great deal more for you to discover.  I would be happy to help you where ever possible so let me have any of your questions and queries.
Good hunting,
Regards

Les Moreland.

The Schossow family came here on the "Helene" which departed Hamburg on 28th March 1865 and arrived in Moreton Bay on 27th July 1865.

They are listed as follows:  Carl Schossow  35 years
                                        Luise               31 years.

Their last place of residence was Bagemuhl in the Uckermark.  This is obviously were they were married.  I can't find any pace called Streithoff, but there is always a great deal of corruption of place names on certificates pertaining to Germans so I am very doubtful if this is correct.  Luise Schossow's surname would have been Durow.  This is a well known name in that village.

The Fischer family came to Queensland on the "San Francisco" which departed Hamburg on 9th August 1863 and arrived in Moreton Bay on 28th November 1863.  There were from Kellinghusen in Schleswig-Holstein and were listed as follows:

Paul Fischer  aged  35 years
Wiebke  33
Margaretta  9
Marcus  7
Ann  5
Wilhelm  2

Fredrich Conrad Sailer married Winnie Toohey.

There seems to have been a strong connection there with Kalbar so it is possible that the Sailer family senior settled there.  Konrad Fredrich Sailer was born in Gross Bothar on 3rd July 1850.  The Johann Sailer who came here on the "peru" in 1855 was born there on 7th March 1828 and was probably the brother of Friedrich Sailer Senior.

This transcription in itself, is now antique!  But with the help of the marvels of modern technology, the stories and photographs can be connected to the correct people.

Their stories follow.
